Latisys Announces Expansion of Chicago Data Center To Meet Growing Customer Demand
Completion of initial expansion phase adds 9,000 square feet to co-location facility; firm continues strong growth with approximate doubling of Chicago employee base in 2009
Chicago, ILLINOIS (August 31, 2009) – Latisys, a leading provider of co-location, managed hosting, managed services and disaster recovery solutions, today announced that it has completed a significant physical expansion of its 86,000 square foot Tier III+ Chicago-area Data Center facility to meet growing customer demand. The firm has also roughly doubled the size of its Chicago employee base since the beginning of the year and expects to grow staff at this location by an additional 33 percent over the next six months.
The recent completion of Phase 1 of the expansion project added 9,000 square feet of high density raised floor to Latisys’ Oak Brook, Ill state-of-the-art data center. The additional space is already 70% sold, and the Oak Brook facility now has approximately 70 customers – ranging from Fortune 500 firms to small and mid-sized organizations – that rely on Latisys for managed hosting, co-location and disaster recovery services.
“An increasing number of organizations are turning to our suburban Chicago facility as a cost-effective, secure and seamless way to address their long term need for additional data center space, power and services,” said John McCreary, general manager, Latisys Corp. “The completion of the first phase of our facility expansion and employee growth reflect Latisys’ commitment to providing customers with the scalability, flexibility and agility to grow and thrive.”
A number of key economic, business and regional factors are driving customer demand for Latisys’ co-location and managed services at the suburban Chicago data center:
• Demand for more power and space among Chicago-area organizations whose existing capacity threshold has been reached
• Close proximity to downtown Chicago offers organizations in The Loop and surrounding areas the lowest latency (as low as sub 1ms) of any suburban data center
• Flexible services approach delivers a customized and scalable solution to meet customer needs
• Powerful outsourcing solution for organizations facing tight credit markets and unable to raise funds for internal facility expansion
• Latisys’ growing national presence currently with two additional data center facilities located in Irvine, CA and Denver, CO offer Chicago-area organizations the required redundancy and disaster recovery
• Full suite of managed services including managed VPN, firewall, server virtualization, backup, replication, IDS
Evans Mullan, chief operating officer, Latisys Corp., added: “Demand for scalable outsourced IT infrastructure management solutions in Chicago mirrors the positive response we are seeing at all of our nationwide co-location facilities. Despite the growth, Latisys remains laser-focused on providing each customer with the highest level of service.”
Latisys has also accelerated the second phase of the expansion project, which is currently underway and will add an additional 13,000 square feet of high density raised floor space to the Oak Brook facility in Q3 2009.
