Latisys is expanding in the Chicago area to meet growing customer demand for its co-location and disaster recovery services.

The Fairfax-based company added space to its Oak Brook, Ill. data center and has doubled the size of its employee base in the area since the beginning of the year. It expects staff count to grow there by an additional 33 percent over the next six months.

The company added 9,000 square feet of high density raised floor space to the facility, and the extra space is 70-percent sold. It now has about 70 customers – ranging from Fortune 500 firms to small and mid-sized organizations – that use its services.

“An increasing number of organizations are turning to our suburban Chicago facility as a cost-effective, secure and seamless way to address their long term need for additional data center space, power and services,” said John McCreary, general manager of the company.

Latisys plans to add an additional 13,000 square feet of high density raised floor space to the facility in the third quarter.

The company, formerly known as Managed Data Holdings, also operates data centers in Denver, Colo. and Irvine Calif.
