Location

The Latisys Tier III Chicago Data Center is strategically positioned in the heart of the Midwest. It’s conveniently located 25 miles west of Chicago Illinois in the prestigious corporate community of Oak Brook, which is accessible by a number of routes and modes of transportation. Oak Brook is also home to exceptional shopping, overnight accommodations and dining experiences.

Physical Structure

At 147,000 square feet, the high-density, Tier III Latisys data center has specifically been built to safeguard mission-critical data and accommodate your future growth and change.

When viewing the outside of the Chicago data center, you can see that Latisys maintains a low profile. The exterior is completely anonymous, while blending in with the surrounding area.

Security and Surveillance

To protect your mission-critical operations, Latisys Chicago maintains a tight and multi-layered security system. Video surveillance and electronic motion sensors provide continuous interior and exterior observation and 30-day retained storage. The building’s single entry point is outfitted with sophisticated security sensors, vandal-resistant and bullet-proof glass, full biometric hand scanning and mantraps. To complement the data center’s physical security features, it is also staffed by a NOC team that monitors the facility 24/7/365.

The outside of the Chicago data center, or building envelope, was designed and constructed to withstand extreme temperatures, high winds, floods, fire, impact, pollution and electro-magnetic interference.

Water Protection

Inside, water and moisture protection is paramount. On the roof of the data center, we employ a fully adhered, rubber membrane system with isocyanurate insulation. Below grade, our enclosed containment pump evacuation system controls all water run off.

Fire Safety

Fire safety begins with prevention and early detection. Our dry-pipe, four stage VESDA® air-sampling smoke detector uses laser detection and light scattering technologies to provide the earliest possible warning of an impending fire. In the unlikely event of fire, the fire suppression system is automatically triggered to prevent damage, disruption and injury. Additionally, CleanGuard® fire extinguishers are strategically located throughout the data center.

Cooling System

To eliminate hot spots in the Latisys Chicago data center and constantly maintain the availability of business critical systems, we employ twenty, rooftop 135-ton Trane compressors. They provide optimum cooling power to our colocation area, are 2N+1 capable and run with efficiency and reliability. Three 20-ton Liebert cooling loops provide focused, high-efficiency cooling to the Network Core and Power Room areas.

Of course, uninterrupted access and premium bandwidth are critical to your colocation needs. That’s why we offer carrier neutral options and diverse network routes. Latisys also offers multiple, diverse fiber routing to Tier 1 carriers.

Primary power is robust. We can supply more watts per square foot than any other data center in the Midwest and we have the availability of 12.5 megawatts for power-hungry applications. Our redundant Uninterrupted Power Supply prevents power spikes, surges and brownouts. And because we’re equipped with N + 1 diesel generators, each with a 2,000-gallon belly tank, we have enough stand-by power to stay up and running in the event of a commercial power failure.

Latisys operates a highly secure Network Operations Center. Real-time monitoring and traffic management for all detected issues, are proactively tracked and acted upon for immediate resolution.
