Facility Specifications

  • Purpose-built building originally constructed as a data center shell in 1999
  • 99,000 sq. ft. raw, caged, micro-suite and individual cabinet space in CHI-1
  • 48,000 sq. ft. (30,000 raised floor) raw space for individual cabinets and
    private cage areas in CHI-2
  • 36 inch raised floor in CHI-2
  • 12 in. thick reinforced concrete wall construction, able to withstand
    winds in excess of 90 mph, and located outside of flood plains
  • Building standards meet NEBS Level 3-compliance
  • Fully complies with Tier III design specification standards as outlined by
    The Uptime Institute
  • Secure exterior faux spandrel window system
  • Roof is a fully adhered single-ply 60mil EPDM rubber membrane system with isocyanurate insulation

Building Access and Security


SecurityThe Latisys security system includes these key features:

  • 24x7 building access, 24x7 on-site security and NOC staff
  • Alarm system with camera surveillance covering the entire
    perimeter of the building, throughout the data center area and all
    entrances and exits

  • Best-of-breed MGE STS/PDU technology
  • On-Site diesel fuel-based backup power generators

Cooling Infrastructure

  • N+1 cooling configuration utilizing CRAC units and RTUs
  • Twenty 135-ton custom Trane rooftop units for CHI-1
  • Over 1000 cfm for each supply and return in CHI-1
  • Capable of delivering over 690 tons of cooling for the DC-01 in CHI-2
  • Cooling maintained via 36" pressurized raised floor plenum and a
    common supply return plenum in CHI-2
  • Additional overhead cooling is available for high-density environments
    in raised floor areas
  • Multiple CRAC units provide cooling for electrical rooms and private
    micro-suite data centers
  • Multiple thermal layers and real-time electronic adjustment of cooling
    needs for each individual cage or cabinet space
  • Concurrent maintainability of the cooling infrastructure with no single
    points of failure throughout
  • Hot aisle /cold aisle containment techniques used on data center floor
    for added efficiency
  • Cooling system designed and managed to meet or exceed ASHRAE
    standards for data center temperature and humidity

 

Fire Detection and Suppression

  • State-of-the-art monitoring system provides real-time data on
    equipment operation, enabling easy system management and instant
    identification of problems
  • Monitoring includes power and cooling systems, as well as
    temperature, humidity, leak detection and fire protection

Network

  • Multiple carrier options available (XO, Level3, AboveNet, Savvis,
    and more)
  • Multiple fiber route entrances to building

Scott Moerman, Regional Sales Director
Scott Moerman is the Regional Sales Director for the mid-west region at Latisys and is responsible for sales into the Chicago market. Moerman brings more than 14 years of sales and sales management experience to Latisys from various companies including XO and Internap.

 
Nabon Marisco

Nabon Marsico, Director of Data Center Operations
Nabon Marsico
joined Latisys in 2008 and acts as the Director of Data Center Operations for Latisys-Chicago.  His responsibilities include the build-out and day-to-day operations of the Chicago data center campus. Prior to joining Latisys, Mr. Marsico served in various senior roles with Equinix and Emerson Network Power/Liebert Global Services. Mr. Marsico is a graduate of the United States Navy Nuclear and Electrical Training Programs.

 

Jordan Hosick, Implementation Coordinator
Jordan Hosick holds the role of Implementation Coordinator at Latisys. His responsibilities include working directly with customers and multiple vendors in order to provide services Latisys customers require. Mr. Hosick has been a part of the Latisys team since May, 2011, starting as a Network Operations Center Technician. He has also worked as a Network Administrator and IT Consultant in the medical imaging industry, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Applied Science: Information Systems Security.

 
Kevin Sheehan

Kevin Sheehan, NOC Supervisor
Kevin Sheehan is the Network Operations Center Manager at Latisys. In his role, Kevin is responsible for the daily NOC operations, its staff, and Tier 1 support with over four years of Data Center experience. Kevin served as a Lead NOC Technician at Stargate Colocation and Secondary Marketing Analyst with Heartland Home Finance with over six years of marketing, pricing and IT and desktop support experience.
